Johnny Park Road
We had hoped to find the far end of Bright Trail off of Johnny Park Road, and we started on the far end so we could run almost the whole thing. Unfortunately, Bright Trail is a hiking trail once you get to Johnny Park Road, but we still had fun. This is always a great trail.
Mark U. was with us for just a short time. We started the trail and his Jeep was overheating. We broke for lunch just after getting on the trail, and Mark decided he would head for home instead. After lunch, the rest of us continued along the trail.
We would be either in front of or behind an FJ Cruiser for the day, and we would see lots of other traffic. At one point, there were vehicles in front of us and behind us as we passed other vehicles and ATVs, all at the same time. It was a busy day.
It was also a hot day. As the afternoon progressed, it kept getting hotter. At one point, Walt told us it was 98 degrees. It must have been really hot in town! We weren't very high in elevation, though, so we weren't going to escape the heat today.
We had fun on the rocky sections, like always. At one place, there was a short wall with dusty dirt at the bottom. Everyone but Mike C. had to give it more than one try to get over it. Fun!
One odd thing was the mud hole. When we got there, it was completely dry. With all of the snow we'd had, it should have been very full. We noticed a new drainage pipe, so it's possible that the mud puddle is gone for good. We saw some other muddy areas, but the big one was dry.
When we got near the end, we looked for Bright Trail. We found it, an overgrown hiking trail that we'd driven by every time without even noticing it. It had a sign and a kiosk, but it was very well-hidden by trees. It looked like we'd have to go around to the trailhead in order to run that trail.
We spent just a bit of time on the pavement to get down to the other end of Bright Trail. Johnny Park Road is always a fun one, and we had a good time.
