Johnny Park Road
We did Pole Hill and Pierson Park Road, and we were so close to Johnny Park Road that we had to run it backwards to make a big loop and complete our day. During the short time we were on County Road 82, we had to stop for a family of bighorn sheep right in the middle of the road. They slowly worked their way off the road and we all had time to get a good look at them. They didn't seem afraid of us at all, and we tried to keep quiet and not move too quickly.
We started on the far end of Johnny Park Road, hoping we wouldn't see any other vehicles coming the other direction. Most of our trip would be downhill, and we wouldn't have the right-of-way this time.
We expected to see lots of campers for the 4th of July weekend, but we hardly saw anyone. We didn't see any vehicles on the trail, either. It was remarkably quiet.
The downhill trip wasn't as fun as it is in the opposite direction, but it was still a great time. We took some pictures of us coming down the biggest hill near the parking area while some campers watched. Because it was all downhill, the whole trail only took us about an hour.
It wasn't long at all before we were airing up and reconnecting sway bars at the usual trailhead. The sun was going down, and the mosquitoes came out. We all tried not to get eaten alive, avoiding bug spray this late in the day.
Most of us ate at Oscar Blues in Lyons, and it was a great dinner. We were actually done with dinner and heading for home and the sun wasn't even down yet. We had a great day!
