Johnny Park Road
We planned this run to Johnny Park Road only a day before we did it, and we had a pretty small group. Five people didn't show up, so our group was even smaller than expected. Don showed up in his new Jeep and we were ready to go.
We met Corrie on the highway on the way through Longmont, and it wasn't long before we were at the trailhead. The weather was perfect, and it stayed that way. There was a stinky puddle right at the beggining of the trail, and we all slowly crawled through it. No one was in the mood for mud.
We had a great time on the rocky sections. Don probably had the most fun, wheeling in his new, silver Jeep. He rolled his old, silver Jeep a week before on Pritchett Canyon, and he was already in his new one. It was still stock, and the previous owner had put chrome bumpers and nerf steps on it. It hung really low to the ground, so Don had to be careful. He managed to make it through the whole trail without hitting them. That's impressive!
We explored a lot of the spurs on the trail, and most of them came to a dead end or a campsite right away. We found a couple of really great campsites that we'd like to use later, too. We also found a fantastic place for lunch.
The last part of the trail was definitely the best as far as scenery went. Mount Meeker and Longs Peak kept getting bigger as we kept getting closer. They had some snow on them, still, and the views were awesome.
We ran into some people playing in the mud, but we went around all of it. It really smelled bad, and it was completely avoidable. Those holes are a bad idea. We managed to get around them, though.
We really enjoyed the entire day. We went our separate ways after the trail, for the most part. It was great seeing everyone. It was a nice, relaxing day with a few rocky sections tossed in for fun.
