Illinois River
We had time for one more of the trails off of Teller City, so on our way out to the pavement we turned to check out Illinois River. It ended up being a great side trip.
It had been raining for a while and it looked like it wasn't going to stop anytime soon. The first part of the Illinois River trail was gorgeous in all of the rain, making everything very green. Monica spotted a moose, and Mike slammed on the brakes. It just stood there, huge and watching us, while we stared at it and took a few pictures. We'd seen a couple moose during our trip (among many animals) but this was the only one to hold still. It looked wet and miserable in the chilly rain.
The trail went through trees and big, open meadows. It was a pretty, scenic trail the entire way.
There were a lot of hiking trails heading north. There was even a little bumpy section, though nothing was challenging. When we got to the end, it was just a turnaround spot.
We turned around, thinking this was the last trail of the trip. But there was one more in store for us.
