Georgetown Ice Races
The weather was gorgeous, 40 degrees with a beautiful blue sky. Bob was there early to register for the Street Stock Bare Rubber class and he was practicing on the course when the rest of us showed up. He was looking good!
The Women's division went first, racing on the right track while the Competition Studs class raced on the left track. There was even a small track set up further to the left of that track where they were racing Bar Stools -- basically bar stools with engines and handlebars. It looked top-heavy but we never saw anyone topple over. Very cool to watch and now we all want one!
Finally the Men's division was up and Bob was set to race against a truck. Monica and Rachel rode along for moral support while Dave stayed out to film on the camcorder. He looked good off the starting line but then he went around the far corner that was slick ice with no snow. Bob took the corner like a lot of other racers did, with a 360 degree spin out at the end. That put him behind but he kept on moving.
On the other half of the course he got a little off track but managed to stay between the cones. The final corner put him in another spin and he went through the finish line cones sideways, in a long slide, knocking over the only cone of the race. Unfortunately he also came in second to the truck, getting eliminated in the first round.
Matt showed up just in time to see the race -- he had hoped to race but his schedule didn't permit it this time. We hung out for awhile because everyone who races also has to help out in another race. Bob was helping in the Women's Pro Street Bare Rubber race and he watched a corner to make sure racers didn't knock over any cones. Ironically, it was the same corner where he had previously spun out.
We hit Idaho Springs on the way back for some Beau Jo's pizza. It was a great day and we'll be planning another trip this season so more of us can race!
