Gateway Road
It was the start of our spring trip to Moab and most of us would be doing the Gateway Road on the way in. Three people in our group would have trucks and trailers and it wasn't a good idea to be out on Gateway Road with that kind of a setup. We met in Downieville and even Walt showed up with a stomach flu of some sort. It would definitely be a fun day for him.
The weather was great and we stopped in Clifton for lunch. We found Gateway easily enough, though the highway made a right turn that came as a surprise to some people, including the traffic around us. We were all impressed with the Gateway Canyons Resort, too.
Finding the trail was easy and we aired down just in case the ride was a bumpy one. It would have been pretty smooth, but there were places where someone had a good time when the trail was all mud. It was a mess and it had dried that way, keeping things bumpy.
The section on the way up where the switchbacks are tight made us glad that the guys with trucks and trailers weren't out fighting their way up. They would get into Moab a lot earlier in order to play on a trail out there so they'd have a good time on their own.
We enjoyed the scenery and stopped at the overlook to stretch our legs. Everyone was excited to get to Moab and get our vacation really going.
We saw a few other people on the way down into Moab, and then the trail ended at pavement. We pulled off to the right of the end of the trail and walked out to the other overlook and we were glad we did. The views were awesome and we stayed there for a bit.
Then we headed down the pavement to Moab for a sunny week of fun. What a great way to start our week!
