Fern Creek
Fern Creek was the second trip of the day. At the start of the trail, the snow was not too deep.
Soon after starting Fern Creek, we ran into a group of ATVs. So, we let them pass and then kept going.
As we went up Fern Creek, the snow got a lot deeper -- there was around a foot and a half of snow in places. Matt was glad that the ATVs went up first so he did not have to make new tracks in the deep snow.
When we got to the end of Fern Creek, we pulled off to the side so a Jeep by himself could go around us. As we stopped there, we had our lunch break.
As Matt was trying to drive out of the deep snow onto Rampart Range Road, he broke his serpentine belt so he had to be pulled out of the snow. He did not try to replace the belt on the trail because he didn't know what made the serpentine belt break. So, Niko towed Matt all the way back to his house. Later on, Matt found that his new PSP steering pump pulley was moved forward and the pump shaft was rubbing on a bracket. That's what broke the belt.
Is Matt already trying to win Trail Damage of the Year this year?
