Dead Mexican Park
It was a long and wonderful day on the trails and we wanted to finish it where we started, on Dead Mexican Park. Mike hadn't been with us that morning, so he hadn't seen the grave site. We ran the trail so we'd finish there.
The area has a name that seems offensive, but once you know the story it makes sense. We discussed calling it something else, but it has that name on the maps. In the end, any other name wouldn't make sense.
The trail is fairly easy so it wasn't long at all before we got to the memorial. We parked nearby and walked up to visit the grave site with other people who were on ATVs and drinking beer. We all wondered why there was no marker and no grave stone. It looked like a post might have held a sign at one point, but the sign was gone. It was just a square of fencing with trees in it. A tree just outside the square had a cross spraypainted on it.
It really was a great day, even though Mike missed the first bit of it. We ended the day together and we saw a lot of gorgeous scenery. We stopped at Murphy's at the Glen Eden Resort and had yet another fantastic meal. We hope that place sticks around so we can eat there again when we come back years from now.
