Crystal City is always on our list of favorite trails because of the Powerhouse. We can't stop taking pictures of it. We were lucky to have gorgeous weather when we were there, and it was just as enjoyable as it always is.

We came off of Schofield Pass and headed down to Crystal. It was a quick trip to the little town, and we decided we wouldn't stop this time. We had a lot of trail miles to cover, yet. So we drove through the town taking only pictures.

We stopped at the Powerhouse, of course. The guys climbed down the steep paths to get better pictures and to check things out. It looked like they had put in cables to strengthen the building since we'd been there last. Hopefully that building lasts forever. It really is a pretty spot.

We soon headed out and down the trail. It was rocky and bumpy, but nothing was challenging. The scenery was nice the entire way, though, especially when we were next to Crystal River.

We passed the trailhead for Lead King Basin and kept going to the trailhead for Crystal City at Beaver Lake. We got out to stretch our legs and decide on our next plan. Will we go back in to do the trails on the way back, or should we take the highway back to Crested Butte? Don't be ridiculous -- of course we'll do the trails. But which trail do we take back to Schofield Pass? After very little discussion we decided on Lead King Basin. We headed back in to catch another trail.

We ran this trail immediately after running Lead King Basin. We had hoped to run Schofield Pass on the way out to get to Crested Butte but it was still covered in way too much snow and it was too dangerous. That meant we got to run the entirety of…
