Corkscrew Gulch
Corkscrew Gulch is a easy trail with some switchbacks to make it fun. At the start of Corkscrew Gulch, we saw two deer off to the side of the road. The deer did not stay long before running into the forest. At the top of the pass for Corkscrew Gulch, the views of the Red Mountains were great. We did not go to the overlook this time.
Soon, we started going down the back side of Corkscrew Gulch. We did not have any issues with the trail itself, but Walt's gas gauge indicated he had less than a quarter tank of fuel left.
Just before the switchbacks, we ran into the last snow for the weekend. As we went down the switchbacks, Walt let Matt know that he was out of fuel. His fuel gauge was below the "E" mark, but his Jeep was still running just fine. Walt made it all the way to the parking area at the other trailhead of Corkscrew Gulch.
As Matt and Walt made plans on how to get more fuel for Walt, the fuel gauge started moving back up to half a tank of fuel. So, it seemed that going for a long time downhill, the JL Jeep does not read the correct fuel level. Good to know!
Corkscrew Gulch was the last trail for the day. After airing our tires back up, Matt and Walt went to a late dinner as it was after 7pm. We did six trails in one day!
