Chinns Lake
We hadn't planned on running this trail, but we had extra time after running Kingston Peak so we decided to add a new one to the list of trails we'd accomplished. We tried to run Chinns Lake earlier in the year, but we got turned back by lots and lots of snow. We were looking forward to finally seeing the lakes and reservoir.
We were already aired down so we just started up the trail. Once we got to the intersection we decided to check out Fall River Reservoir first. The road was bumpy, but it was always wide and fairly easy. You could see Fall River next to the trail in many places, and it was gorgeous.
It was a quick trip to the reservoir and the turnaround spot. You have to hike up to the water to see it, but everyone decided we were okay to move on. We'll have to save that scenery for another trip.
We headed back down to the intersection and up the hill to the lakes. The hill was a fun time, with a few places where tires slipped in 2-wheel drive. When we got to the top of the big climb, a lot of people were camping. It looked like a fantastic spot, and we were jealous.
Chinns Lake itself was extremely scenic. There is a cabin near the lake that we all took pictures of, and the mountains near the lake framed everything well. We continued on and found other people camping right next to the lake, surrounded by trees. It really looked cozy.
The water was very blue. We worked our way by the lake and found Sherwin Lake. It wasn't the same blue color, but it had the mountains completely surrounding it. You could drive to the other side of the lake but then the trail ended. We turned around here.
The trip down to the trailhead was very quick and easy. We aired up near the trailhead and managed to get home before the sun went down. It was a fantastic day of scenery!
