Yansing Gulch
We did not run Chinaman Gulch last year due to the COVID pandemic, so it was good to get back on the trail this year. Jason and Matt met up in Woodland Park for the drive out to Chinaman Gulch. We both stopped for fuel at a gas station near the trailhead. After fueling up the Jeeps, we aired down in the parking lot with some other people airing down at the same time.
The first hill before the rock garden was fun. This was the first obstacle that Jason would take his new Jeep up. He had fun and went right up the rocky hill with very few problems.
The Rock Garden was not as bad as it has been in the past. But it was very fun for Jason as he learned more about driving off-road.
When we got to the exit of the loop, we saw they installed signs directing you the correct way. The loop is now officially a one-way trail. That's a good update to the trail.
When we got to the Rock Pile, Matt went and played on the optional pile of rocks for a short time before we had lunch. After a bit, some more people showed up and we watched them drive all over the Rock Pile.
After the show and lunch, we made our way to Whale's Tail. Matt took the center line and went up with no issues. Then it was Jason’s turn, when he took the right side of the obstacle and also went right up with no issues.
The trail after the Whale’s Tale was harder than before. Most of the bypasses were closed and we had to stay on the main trail the whole way.
We stopped at the Stairs for a short time. Matt again played around on the Stairs for more of a good time.
At the Chute, Matt went straight up the v-notch with no issues. Jason tried but slid off his line, but then he just backed up a little and started again on the same line and went straight up the Chute.
On the way out we stopped at Carnage Canyon for a short time to check things out. Then went back through the Rock Garden and down to the parking lot to air back up. As always, we had a great time on Chinaman Gulch.
