China Wall
We met up in Woodland Park and the weather looked like it was going to stay very nice all day. Soon, we were on our way down the road to the trailhead for China Wall, which just opened two weeks before.
We aired down at the new sign for China Wall off the main road. We have not run China Wall in a few years, and we had heard that there is a new gate that closes the trail for the winter months.
After airing down, we started down the trail. Soon, we were in the area where people like to camp, and just after that area we were at the new seasonal gate.
The first part of the trail was tight and rocky. We came up to a big side-by-side going down the hill. It was tight passing each other on the rocky hill.
As we made our way to Posing Rock there were a few side trails off China Wall that had been blocked off. So, most of the bypasses have been closed, but not all of them. Matt went up and over Posing Rock and Niko just went up on Posing Rock -- he did not have the ground clearance like Matt to go over Posing Rock.
When we got to Tippy Rock we stopped and helped spot two Ford trucks up the obstacle. They both did some good driving to get the big trucks up Tippy Rock. The very long, stock wheelbase did make it hard for them. After we got the vehicles up Tippy Rock, we went down and stopped for a few pictures.
We both went up the Rock Slab. We found the area just before the Rock Slab that gets really muddy is all closed off.
Next, we made our way down the hill to go by the river for lunch. The hill had every way up or down it blocked off but for the left side of the hill (the easy way down). So that's the way we went.
Down near the river there now are a few parking areas but everything right next to the river is blocked off. The very end of the China Wall is now closed off, as well.
China Wall is still a fun trail but it has changed with some areas closed. And China Wall is closed for most of the winter, which is not good as China Wall was a great winter trail to run. But we had a great time.
