Chihuahua Gulch
Chihuahua Gulch is our favorite trail in the trail system, with Warden Gulch at a close second. It offers amazing scenery, fun rocks, and good campsites with a hiking trail at the end. What more could you ask for?
We did Peru Creek and headed straight for Chihuahua Gulch. We saw a lot of cars parked at the trailhead, and then we'd find a lot of hikers all along the trail. It was a popular trail for Labor Day Weekend. We saw quite a few people camping, too.
The first rocks were fun as we climbed, and the "S" turn at the creek crossing is always a good one. Then we got to the marshy area to find two trucks filled with people just hanging out. They didn't need anything, and we'd see them still there on our way back. It seemed to be as far as they were willing to go along the trail. It does get more challenging just after that flat area, and we enjoyed it a lot.
The second marshy area had a couple campsites that were available, but people were taking advantage of the many flat spots to be found near the trail. It couldn't have been more scenic, and they really found good spots.
When we got to the end, we were the only vehicles there. We turned around so we'd have an easier time getting out if other people showed up. We got out to hang out and enjoy the scenery, and we got to see an H1 that was repurposed as a wheeling vehicle. They looked like they were having a great time, too, and it was good to chat with them.
We soon headed down, still seeing hikers on their way up. The way down is just as fun, and possibly more scenic. It's too bad the trail isn't longer, because we were soon back out on Peru Creek. We headed east to check out Cinnamon Gulch.
