Cement Creek
We're big fans of new trails, and this trail was new for all of us. We had plans to do Italian Creek, so running Cement Creek beforehand just made sense. We were staying in Crested Butte and we were still aired down from the day before, so we hit the trail and started up right away.
We soon found ourselves behind a lot of people on bicycles. They were wearing all of the bike garb and it looked pretty serious, but they were traveling uphill on a bumpy road so they were working hard. We crawled along behind them and eventually we made it through their group. It was the first of many groups we'd see throughout the day.
The scenery was nice from the very start, and it just kept getting better. It took no time at all to get to the Italian Creek trailhead, and just past it on Cement Creek there was a nice place to stop for a little break. We didn't stop for long, and soon we were heading back up the trail.
There were a few people camping here and there but we pretty much had the second half of the trail to ourselves. It was fairly mellow until we started getting toward the end of the trail, and then it got more steep and more rough. There was a truck in the parking area near the end so we turned around at the next spot. We hung out for a little while just enjoying the views and the perfect weather.
Italian Creek is long so we wanted to get going. We worked our way back down to the Italian Creek trailhead and made the turn. We'll definitely do Cement Creek whenever we're in the area. It was gorgeous!
