Bill Moore Lake was our destination. The 102 degree heat was what we were trying to leave behind.

On the way up the hill with the whoopdeedoos we were stuck behind a couple of Toyota trucks, one Rubicon and one Scout. They were having a very difficult time with the moguls. After waiting for what seemed like 10 minutes, Dave guided the group in between the Toyotas and up the hill. Everyone made it up with no problems.

The rest of the trail proved to be uneventful as there was no snow left on the trail or on the obstacles. Once at the lake, everyone found a space to park and then walked the remaining 100 yards to the lake.

Jed with fishing pole in hand headed off to find some fish, while the rest of us admired the views and sounds of the lake. Buddy (Dave's dog) was wilting in the heat throughout most of the trip and found the water to be very invigorating. After running out of control, Buddy would splash back into the lake to reenergize himself before continuing his version of "the running of the bulls." This was great entertainment for everyone for 15 or 20 minutes.

Finally it was time to go. The ice cream stand down in Empire was calling to us. First we needed to run the Mill Creek trail. The cabin is always a good stop.

After a great time on the rocks on Red Elephant Hill and Mill Creek, we ran up the top part of Bill Moore Lake to meet Sean at the end.  We were actually ahead of schedule, with only two of us running the morning’s trails.  The sun was shining and…
