Bill Moore Lake
We all met up at the Coffee Shop parking lot near Empire. Tim showed up in his old CJ Jeep, because he ran Holy Cross the weekend before and damaged his tire's side wall. He wasn’t able to get the tire replaced yet as the tires are on back order. He said for now, the old CJ was his back-up Jeep.
We talked for some time waiting on Callista. Matt got to meet the member John, so it was good to hang out. But soon enough, Calista showed up and we made our way to the trailhead of Bill Moore Lake.
We all aired down in the parking area before starting up the trail. It looked like it was going to be a very nice day with a lot of sunshine. We all could see that most of the aspen trees were all changing color, and they were beautiful in their bright yellow.
The drive up the side of the mountain was fun. Some of us had fun in the washed-out parts of the trail, and everybody was enjoying all the fall colors.
Soon we were in the area heavily wooded with large pine and other needled trees. This part of the trail can be a little tight going in between the trees on the trail. No had any issues with the Bill Moore Lake Trail so far, including during this stretch. It was pretty easy going.
We stopped at the first right-hand turn, which is the turn towards Bill Moore Lake. We all got out of our vehicles to take some pictures, and then we let another group pass us. We had seen a sign that was indicating a bypass, but we stayed to the right to take the high-clearance route.
After some time of going up, we started going downhill to the lake. There were a lot of loose, small rocks going downhill. None of us had any issues with the hill of small rocks.
We stopped at Bill Moore Lake for lunch. We all walked down to the lake to take in the view. After lunch, Matt and Callista drove up the big rock in the parking lot so that they could get a few good pictures and have some fun.
After the break and lunch, we started our way back to the parking area. We had to stop to watch a few dirt bikes go up the steep hill just a short way down from Bill Moore Lake. Matt was talking with one biker who came back down to us at the bottom of the hill. He told Matt that one of the people on the bike was new with the bike and a bit nervous, and it may take a few moments for him to get up the hill. Eventually, they all managed to drive their bikes up the steep incline and we moved on, as well.
We also passed a Jeep making his way up to Bill Moore Lake that was dressed up for Halloween. He had a few skeletons on his Jeep's bumper and hood, which looked pretty neat. But we had Callista with a pumpkin on her Jeep for Halloween, too.
Soon, we were in the parking area to air back up. It was a great time up in the mountains with all the fall colors.
