Fern Creek
Fern Creek was the second trail for the day. We stopped for lunch at the start of the trail.
Matt climbed on a big rock just for fun, and then Walt decided he was going to try to drive up on that rock. But it was too tall for his Jeep to get his bumper on the rock without hitting his bumper.
When Matt was not looking, Walt had moved his Jeep over a few feet and tried again to drive on the big rock, thinking a different angle would help. Matt did not notice Walt trying to drive up and then Matt heard metal and rock hitting – Walt's bumper and the big rock. It was a very big rock, and just too big from any angle!
After lunch, we started going up Fern Creek. As we gained altitude, the snow got deeper, to maybe about a foot or so. It kept things interesting, but no one had any issues.
About halfway up Fern Creek, we ran into a group of side-by-sides. They had a good spot to pull off the trail and let us pass, so we got by them easily enough. After the side-by-sides, a second group of side-by-sides caught up with us and followed us for the rest of the trail. Then we left them and headed to Mount Herman Road after saying goodbye to Walt, who went home.
