Muley Point
This trail was definitely one of the highlights of our whole Utah trip. It wasn't a serious 4x4 trail, but the views could not be beat. We did the Moki Dugway a couple days before, so we skipped it and got up to the mesa by doing Snow Flat Road instead (which was really nice). The Muley Point trailhead was signed and easy to find, so we started right in.
Because it was smooth and graded, the trip to the first overlook was an easy and fast one. It was a big, wide area that looked like a pull-out, so it could easily be skipped if you aren't looking for it. But it was probably the best of the two overlooks because it was easy to get to the edge (don't drive off the side!).
The valley is huge and awe inspiring. We were staying in Monument Valley and we had seen a lot of the area, so it was awesome to point out the rocks, spires and mesas below us that all looked familiar. We had done the Johns Canyon trail years before, and it was also pretty cool to see it below us. We could have stayed up there for a long, long time. But we wanted to see Muley Point. We took a 360-degree video up to this point.
The trail ends at the Point, and there is a lot of parking. We all walked around the area to see what we could see at each side and the end of the pointed part of the mesa. Each side offered different views, all with the Johns Canyon trail below us.
What an awesome trail! We had passed the trailhead for Cedar Mesa as we went down Muley Point, so we backtracked until that trailhead. It really was a great day, and the best was yet to come.
