Dolores River Overlook
We figured we were going to do Rose Garden Hill, but then we decided to check out some new trails instead. First, we thought we'd see if the trail still went up to Blue Chief Mesa. When we got to the base of that hill, it looked washed out. Niko hiked up to where the trail basically disappeared. He thinks it could be reopened, but for now it's closed. We had lunch there and were bummed about the lost trail.
After lunch, we headed over to see what we could see on Sevenmile Mesa next door. We ended up doing two trails in that area: one easy one and one more difficult one. The easy one is Dolores River Overlook.
It was an easy drive, and we had fun in the straight sections. We had a side-by-side on our tail toward the end, and he did some donuts to spray rocks at us as we parked at the overlook. We definitely aren't as fast as some of those drivers want to go. Of course, that meant we had the overlook to ourselves.
We hung out for a while just taking in the views of the Dolores River below us. It was really peaceful, and it looked like people camped there at the end of the trail. It would be a nice area.
We soon went back in to see what fun we could find on Sevenmile Mesa.
