Clear Creek Reservoir
We'd been on the trail before as a way to get to Clohesy Lake, but we hadn't spent any real time on Clear Creek Reservoir as a group. We met in Johnson Village and headed up. It was raining, very cloudy, chilly, windy, and not a great morning for weather. We had talked about doing Mount Princeton, but the weather just wasn't good enough to climb up the mountain. We aired down at the lake instead, deciding to do trails north of Buena Vista.
There was a race happening later in the day, so there were lots of cars and trucks on the road. We hoped the weather was going to improve, so we decided to do Clohesy Lake first and then see the sights on Clear Creek Reservoir later in the day. We followed a parade all the way to that trailhead and did the trail out and back, and by the time we got back the sky was clear and everything was beautiful.
We headed to the end and we were turned around by the race. Though we were hoping to do the Winfield trails, we weren't able to get that far.
On the way back to the reservoir, we stopped at the Vicksburg Museum. We walked around, checking out all of the mining artifacts there. Each one had a small sign noting what it was. The old cabins were closed, which was a bummer. Lots of people were staying in the more modern cabins behind the museum, and it looked like a nice place to stay. We were glad we stopped.
There were still a lot of cars on their way to Winfield, though not many were on their way out like we were. We stopped at the old cabins on the way out to check things out.
When we got back to the water, we stopped to discuss our next plans. The weather was so good, so we headed off to Lost Canyon for some views far above timberline.
