Mesa Lake
We were heading out to a bunch of trails on our last day on Grand Mesa, and we decided to do the short Mesa Lake trail because we were in the area. It basically cuts off a switchback of Highway 65. It definitely didn't take us long.
We started on the north end, and it was easy to find (and very near the Jumbo Reservoir Campground where we met). We were immediately in the trees. It was early in the morning, and things were just starting to warm up.
The trail put us over Mesa Lake, which was pretty in the morning sun, but it didn't provide a way to get down to it. There were small ponds farther in, but that was it.
We saw people camping and making breakfast, and this would be a good place to camp. No amenities, but no fees. It was a nice little trek through the woods. We popped back onto Highway 65 and headed out to the Visitor Center and the rest of the trails for the day.
