Bonham Reservoir
There is a network and loop of trails between Lakeshore Drive and Long Slough Reservoir, and the main plan for the day was to check them all out. We started Lakeshore Drive on the Collbran end, and soon found the Bonham Reservoir trailhead. It was at a bunch of buildings, a Bureau of Reclamation office. That made it very easy to spot. We stopped right after getting started, at a scenic view of Bonham Reservoir. It was a nice way to get some fresh air and stretch our legs.
The trail is curvy as it winds in and out of the trees, and most of it at the start is bumpy. You can't get going with any speed at all, and the rocks aren't particularly fun. It's a "shake and bake" trail, though the weather wasn't very warm. They had also recently torn up a lot of the ground and trees around the trail, apparently to work on a water pipeline that it followed.
This stretch of trail seemed to take a long time, and though it was nice to get out it wasn't our favorite trail. Still, we wanted to see the whole thing so we kept going. It turned south and then headed up a hill, which was a nice diversion.
We did Long Slough Reservoir the night before, and Mike once again opened and closed both of the gates. At least there weren't cows trying to escape this time.
We found a little campsite next to a stream, so we had a nice lunch there just listening to the water run by. There weren't many mosquitoes, so it was a great lunch.
When we got to the end of the trail, we wandered to the end of Kitson Reservoir before heading up Neversweat Reservoir. Bonham Reservoir was a nice trail, but we were looking for a bit more of a challenge with better, more natural scenery.
