Georgetown Ice Races
These were the first true races of the season and we had a great turnout from the club. There were lots of people in the street stock classes (men's and women's) so it made for some great racing. Only Julie managed to win a race (it's early in the season, though!) but we all had a blast anyway.
Most of us got there early enough to practice, and we found out that we'd be racing on the oval track instead of the dog bone track. The dog bone track was really torn up, with deep grooves in the ice and big "snow" drifts where the cheaters and studs had torn through the ice. The oval track, on the other hand, was slick and shiny, just like the tracks were on the practice day two days before.
The races started soon enough with the women's street stock class. Monica raced and lost, and Teri drove Perry's Kia and did really well for her first time on the ice. Julie won a few races (one even needed a tie breaker) and ended up in second place. She proved that "slow and steady wins the race" instead of the fast and furious method Monica was trying.
The men's street stock started right after the women's finished, and we had a lot of guys racing. No one got to race against each other (luck of the draw) and though there were some close calls everyone ended up out after the first round. Perry raced against an Audi and it was so close that they had to race again as a tie breaker. That race was also really close but the Audi ended up winning in the end.
The weather was pretty good, though it was chilly in the wind. It was great seeing everyone -- Mike V. even stopped by to watch. The Ice Races are going to be a blast this year!
