Pierson Park North
The drive from Pole Hill to Pierson Park Road isn't very far, and before we knew it we were at the trail head. It wasn't hard to find.
The trail is fairly easy as you pass through aspens, and it starts to climb moderately when you get to the pine trees. There were quite a few piles of cut pine trees, dead from beetle kill and stacked along the sides of the trail.
When we reached forest road 119D we decided to give it a try. We thought maybe there would be some overlooks, but it was just a nice drive through the woods that looped us back to Pierson Park Road. This spur trail was smooth and less rocky than Pierson Park Road. Along the way we found another intersection for 119E. We were not sure where it led to and opted to stay on 119D. Later, we looked at a map and found out that 119E made a loop as well. We will have to try this one next time.
We connected back onto Pierson Park Road and continued on until we reached a meadow and found a great place for lunch. Not long into our lunch a group of motorcycles came by and circled around us and left. We figured we beat them to the spot. After a relaxing lunch, we continued up the trail.
The trail started the steepest climb so far and it was just a little rocky. This is the hardest part of the trail, but we had no issues at all. At the top we opened a gate. After passing through the gate, we closed it. Always leave a gate the way you found it.
The trail is a gradual downhill from the top. It's a nice drive through the trees. After a while we started to see campsites which meant we were close to the end of the trail. At the end of the trail we turned left to run Johnny Park Road.
This trail ended up being a really nice drive through the woods that we really enjoyed.
