Oh-My-God Road
The forest service opened Kingston Peak the day before, and that was our ultimate goal. We decided to check out Yankee Hill, too, following reports of it getting more difficult. It was a day of many miles, and we planned on seeing many people. The weather was perfect, and we aired down at the McDonald's in Idaho Springs.
It was a pretty uneventful trip up to Central City. We took the most difficult route, but it was still very easy. Still it was a long, slow climb. Monica's Jeep was the only one to get a little hot when we were near the top of the dirt section.
We got a bit turned around at the pavement, but a quick check with the maps got us back on track. Then it was easy as we drove by Russell Gulch and the Glory Hole mining area. We even took a direct and easy route through Central City, taking in the sights during a slow crawl through town.
The trail didn't take long, and we made the quick trip over to Yankee Hill for the next bit of fun.
