Mount Herman Road
It had been a long day in the Rampart Range Area. We started on the east side, cut through to the west side, and now we were cutting back through again to where we started. Our plan was to take Mount Herman Road to Monument for some Mexican food at a decent hour.
There are a couple of trails that leave from Mount Herman Road that we hadn't tried yet. They called to us, but airing up in daylight was just too promising. We skipped them for now, promising to come back at another time.
The trail was nice and smooth, and we didn't see many people at that hour. We passed by the Balanced Rock and snapped a few pictures, but we didn't stop. Then we headed down the switchbacks.
There were a few people coming up, and that always keeps you on your toes. We didn't have any issues, though. It wasn't long before we were sneaking peeks at civilization in the foothills.
We passed a truck towing ATVs when we were close to the bottom, happy we didn't see him farther up the trail. We passed through the gate and turned east into town. When we got there, we headed for an open field to air up, and we made it to dinner with time to spare. It was a great start to the Colorado season, and everyone was happy.
