Middle St. Vrain
We had a big group for this run and we all made it. There is a new "gate" obstacle at the start of the trail that challenged a few vehicles but in the end we didn't leave anyone behind. The weather was perfect and everyone really enjoyed the trail.
Most of us met in Boulder, then we met up with Ladd and Perry at the trailhead. We started later than we had hoped so we were all starving at lunch time. It's hard to get a group of this size moving on schedule!
The first obstacle is right at the trailhead and is designed to keep underqualified vehicles off the trail. There were a couple issues getting some people over it, but in the end we were all on the trail.
The sun was shining and we enjoyed the scenery as we worked our way to the first obstacle of rocks. There were some opportunities to flex and make the obstacle more difficult, and many people in the group had a good time on the big rock in the middle. The kids couldn't stop talking about how cool Joe looked when he made it look easy!
We continued on and found more and more puddles. Everyone splashed a little in the creek crossing. We all passed on the big poser rock this time (there was someone camping right next to it).
When we got to the Coney Flats turn off we split up, with half of us going to the end of Middle St. Vrain for lunch while the other half went up to the lake for lunch. When it's sunny it doesn't get much prettier than the end of Middle St. Vrain (though that mud still smells really bad). We had a nice lunch there and turned around to meet everyone else at the Coney Flats "lake."
This is always such a good trail and we all had a great time!
