This was the first time for this trail, a long drive for some of us (coming from Parker and Aurora). The day was sunny and gorgeous so we were looking forward to it!

The trail starts out with some small rock obstacles right away, and you get to Heart Attack Hill in the first few minutes. We all chose our lines and had a good time on the Hill -- Kendall even came down again and went back up another way. Steve had a few troubles in Beth's Jeep and had to be winched. He was pretty tippy.

The trail was pretty mellow for awhile after that, until we came to The Chutes. You're on a long dirt road for awhile before you almost miss it on the left side of the road. Brad did it without any problems. Same with Kris. Kendall gave it a really good shot but the rocks were just too big so he had to turn around. It was a good place for lunch, but the flies and mosquitoes were all over us.

There were a few more fun spots after that, especially the big mud hole we found. Kris went through first, taking advantage of the dry strip down the middle that wouldn't be there anymore after Brad tore it up. You had to keep your left side tires up on the ridge and your right side in the middle of the mud. Brad slipped in once and after that the hole was a mess!

Kendall couldn't get through so he thought he'd slip his back tire in at the last minute. He tried a bit too soon and we all watched as he slid all the way in and balanced for a second on his side without going over. It was close! The guys all stood on the driver's side until Kendall could get himself out.

Beth launched herself through the mud hole without any problems, and Monica made it through too. The mud hole was a blast.

Great day, great trail, great time!

Even though Kelly Flats has been one of the club’s favorite trails for over a decade, it had been way too long since we’d seen it. It’s just one of those trails that we never seem to get to. We planned a day of some new trails, but Kelly Flats…
