Note that this run was before the Iron Chest trail was modified to allow access to mining vehicles. At the time, the trail was rated a 9 and was very difficult.

We weren't thinking clearly when we did this trail after Chinaman's Gulch at dusk. It's close to the Gulch, and only a couple of miles long, with the tough stuff at the very start -- so we thought we'd go check it out even though the shadows were already really long.

We started out on this extremely challenging trail, then had to turn around and come back about mid-way because we could no longer see. I was making some bad decisions because in the shadows the rocks all looked about the same size. This earned me my first real body damage, a nice dent and scrape along my nerf bar (stupid purchase anyway, don't know how they've survived this long in the first place). This is a wickedly evil trail, one I'd like to attempt every year to see just how many mods it does take to make something like this a walk in the park.

We found ourselves in the mountains for the peak weekend for viewing the aspen leaves change from green to yellow. They were starting to fall from the trees, but most aspens were still yellow. It made for a beautiful but busy drive to Johnson Village where we all met at…
