Hurrah Pass
We started our Moab trip off with a mellow day, and the weather was just as mellow. It was the end of May and it was probably around 75 degrees and cloudy. That's strange weather for Moab that time of year. Still, it looked like it was going to be a nice trip.
We found a little loop that left and rejoined the main trail on the way up, offering a little ledge to climb and one to drop down. It got us off to a nice start.
We saw a new Jeep Wrangler JK out on the trail ahead of us from time to time, but otherwise we were alone on the trail. We climbed to the top of Hurrah Pass and then down to the other side, enjoying the fabulous views. Everything was very green wherever plants could grow.
We soon found the trailhead for Jackson Hole, but we were going to do Chicken Corners first so we drove right by it. We started in on the sandy stretch at the start of our second trail.
Everything went well for only a moment, and soon Robert's Jeep was dead on the side of the road. We were all pretty separated, playing in the fast sand, so it took us awhile to regroup. Robert did some extensive testing and found that his fuel pump had died. He wasn't moving without a new one.
Pat, Robert's brother, was also on the trail. Dane ran Robert back into town for a new fuel pump while Pat stayed with Robert's Jeep. The rest of us eventually left to do Chicken Corners and come back later. This wasn't a good start to the trip after all!
