Grizzly Lake
A small group of us had headed up to the Buena Vista valley to enjoy the long weekend and do some four-wheeling. The day before, our fearless leader Dave had broken his Jeep's rear axle on Chinaman Gulch, leaving only three of us for Sunday's trails. Gary was riding as Bill's passenger.
There were rumors that other TrailDamage members were heading up for the day's trails, so we headed over to the gas station in Johnson Village to wait patiently. Sure enough, Ladd and his wife showed up, along with Mike who lives nearby. Ladd and Mike aired down while we waited to see if anyone else was going to show up. The rest of us were still aired down from the day before, so we were all soon ready to go. Mike knew how to get to the trailhead so he volunteered to show us the way.
At the trailhead, Mike allowed Robert to pass and Robert led the way as we headed up to the first obstacle. Robert went up the obstacle and then drove up and around the first turn to give the others room to park behind him.
Ladd and Bill came right up the obstacle and parked behind Robert with no problems. Mike and Jed had a bit more difficulty making it up the obstacle without lockers, but with some finesse they made it up just fine.
We worked ourselves around and up the first steep, rocky hill. Robert was at top of the hill when Gary's voice came across the radio asking Jed if he was trying to make the trail a little more exciting. Apparently, Jed had slid the rear of his Jeep a little closer to the edge of the trail than Gary or Jed had liked.
We made it the rest of the way up to the lake with no problems. We stopped at the lake for lunch and a little fishing. Jed was able to catch a small brook trout. It was very nice day! After Jed caught the fish we knew it was time to head to next trail, so we headed down. The trip down was fast and very bumpy. Off to the next trail!
