Gold Bar Rim
We ran Gold Bar Rim as the end of the Poison Spider Mesa and Golden Spike trio of trails. We did the whole thing in eleven hours and with our early start we still had plenty of light even though we were exhausted.
The start of the trail downhill was uneventful. When we got to the slickrock part that divides the "easy" trail from the most difficult part of the trail it was nostalgic for Monica because they only did the easy part of this trail on the first trip to Moab with the stock Jeep. The hill was pretty easy!
When we got to the big slab of slickrock where you can do anything from really easy to really hard, Kendall tried the really hard line on the far end. He made it almost up but then was sliding so bad he had to come down. The bottom was sand and tires had dug into it, so he wedged himself between the sand floor and the hill. Mike had to get out the tow strap (the only time this trip!) and pull Kendall up the hill.
Monica had to try it next, and the shorter wheelbase meant she wasn't getting stuck. She couldn't make it up, though. The last try she came down REALLY hard on her back bumper and managed to bend it up a little into the spare tire (for about the sixth time, no worries). Stupid bumper.
A long day and a nice trail to end with! Great trip!
