The Jamestown/Ward offroad trail was closed in 2000 because it allowed offroaders to run through James Creek and it was doing damage to the water supply for the area (luckily I ran it once before it closed, my first offroading adventure in May of 2000). Gillespie Gulch used to feed off of that road, and it took a little research to figure out how to get to the Gulch.

Starting from Jamestown, you can get to the Gulch road and a few challenging areas (the best were the hill just past the Black Rose Mine and the Chutes just past the old cabin), but you really can't leave unless you want to go by way of Nugget Hill. This Hill is insanely steep on the edge of a cliff, so we decided against it this run! We played for awhile in an open area we call "Whoopdeedoo Meadow," then returned to Jamestown via the Gulch.

It was a great time, we really conquered some big rocks this trip!

We had heard that the trail was very muddy and slick and that a lot of people were having a hard time getting through The Chutes past the cabin. We had to go check it out for ourselves! When we got there it was completely dry but it was still…
