Georgetown Ice Races
The second and last Fun Day at the Ice Races is always a fun one. This time we had four tracks open (probably the most we've ever seen) and not too many vehicles, so there was rarely a wait to race. The sun was shining and there was very little wind, making it an especially nice day in Georgetown.
We met for lunch in Golden, deciding to get to the lake after lunch instead of before lunch. We never seem to get on the ice until after 1PM anyway. Julie was going to go up with us, but her "check engine" light was on and her Jeep wouldn't start. We had to leave her in Golden, waiting for a tow truck.
When we got up there we paid our $5.00 and drove out to a track and immediately started racing. There were two of the tighter modified dogbone tracks that were a little torn up, giving us lots of traction. The third track had obviously been used for cheaters and there were deep grooves for your tires. It was a bit much for Monica's car so we only raced that track once. The fourth track was a regular dogbone and it was pretty slick ice. It was nice having such a selection.
Ladd was all over the place and you could hear him laughing from the other side of the track because there wasn't much wind. It was par for the course to find him doing an accidental donut in the middle of a race. Monica raced her Murano for the first time and found out that the traction control on the car really helped her driving.
We raced until they kicked us off the ice at about 4:45PM. We didn't want to leave! They even let us do some donuts at the far end of the ice, something they rarely do. Everyone was in a really good mood and the racing was good.
The Ice Racing season really went by quickly this year, but we had a great time. We always have a great time on the ice.
