Dakan Road
We came off of Hidden Valley Road and planned on turning right to go to Rampart Range Road, but for some unknown reason we turned left instead. We headed down the switchbacks, enjoying the view, and when we got down into the valley we realized our mistake. We needed to update our GPS track anyway, so we ran out to the pavement. We had spent the morning lost on the way to the meeting place, so it was par for the course.
We headed back up the switchbacks and to our intersection again. It was a gorgeous morning, so we were happy to drive around. It wasn't long before we found ourselves behind the truck towing a camper that we had seen earlier. It really slowed things down, but it made it interesting. It caused a few traffic jams along the way, but the guy could really drive the thing through the curves.
We got around him at a wide spot, and he was happy to wave us around. When we got to the parking area near Bergen Rock it was about lunch time, so we stopped. There were lots of trucks parked there already, but we managed to put our vehicles in a small bunch. We had a nice lunch in the grass under a shade tree.
The truck and camper went by us again, so we'd catch up to him later. We soon found him in a wide corner with enough room to pass. The driver had taken down an ATV and he was exploring on that instead, looking for the best path out. We wished him luck and headed out.
We kept on Dakan Road instead of turning on Watson Park, and it wasn't long before we were out on Rampart Range Road. We weren't on it long, though, and we soon turned down Long Hollow Road. Dakan Road wasn't as rough as it once was, but it was still a nice drive.
