Coney Flats
Is Coney Flats ever a bad time? Even though it was getting late in the day, we were still on the trail and it was all good. We wanted to show the guys from South Carolina how fun it can be to wheel in Colorado, and there isn't much more fun than the rocks and the water on Coney Flats. We came off of Middle St. Vrain and headed up.
The rocky climb at that end of the trail is a good time, and we enjoyed it. It was largely dry, so it wasn't too tough. We were up the first part and wandering through the puddles in the trees when two Jeeps met us on their way down. We don't see people running it in that direction very often, so it was weird. We all managed to get out of each other's way, though, so it worked out fine.
We climbed up the rocks and made it to the last bit where the rocks are the biggest and the most fun. Everyone took their own line through it, flexing and bumping their way along.
When we got to the lake, Monica and Dennis posed next to each other on the poser rock. We took some pictures, and then Monica backed down so Tim could take her spot. It was a great vacation picture, all of the South Carolina guys together with their rental Jeeps.
There were some people camping and shooting on the other side of the lake, and UTVs and Jeeps working their way back and forth across the water. Tim and Dennis went through it to the other side, and then came back to go through again. It was all smiles and soggy Jeeps.
Monica went through nice and fast, splashing water up and into her open soft top, getting everything wet. We were laughing, and the weather wasn't too chilly to make the downpour unpleasant. We were leaving the lake when the trucks showed up.
The rest of the trail has its fun spots that are rocky and hilly, but for the most part it's a long, bumpy route out. We didn't hurry, but we didn't hang out anywhere. We popped out at the reservoir with plenty of daylight to spare, which was surprising and nice. Dennis and Tim decided to air up at the nearest gas station, while Monica stayed to air up there. It was a great day filled with trails!
