Coney Flats
We ran this trail right after running Middle St. Vrain. We started out as a big group but we lost some people when they left early. Kendall had to go because he may have broken his wrist when his steering wheel caught it. Joe and Landon had to leave early. We still had a big group, though, and it was a great run.
Our group was already split up when half of us had lunch at the end of Middle St. Vrain while the other half had already gone to the "lake" on Coney Flats. That left just a few of us to make our way up to the lake to join the rest of the group.
It wasn't long before we ran across a CJ and a big truck having troubles on the hill connecting the lake to Middle St. Vrain. The truck didn't have enough flex in places, giving it some troubles. We watched as they worked their way to the top, then they let us get by them at the place where the trail splits.
No one had any problems getting through the rocks, and some people took different lines through them to make it even more challenging. Luckily, it wasn't raining and it wasn't muddy so it was all fun and no struggling.
After we met up with the rest of the group we played in the lake for a long time, like we always do. A few of us went through a bunch of times, while others just went through once. Chris managed to get enough water in his engine to kill his Cherokee in the middle of the lake twice, but he got some very impressive splashes. Monica shuttled people back and forth across the lake, too.
Once we got done playing we started down the trail. Some people on ATVs had been watching us at the lake and playing around too, but they left right after we did and ended up stuck behind our big group. It took awhile to find a spot wide enough for all of us to pull to the side to let them through.
Then we ran across two other vehicles coming the other way. One of them was a truck that pulled off to the side so far that it couldn't get back on the trail, so we helped him back on the trail once our
big group got past him.
We came across other people along the trail but luckily all of them could pull to the side enough to let us through. We had a hard time getting going with all of the people we kept seeing.
Eventually we didn't see anyone else and Chris discovered a slow leak in one of his tires. He put air in it a couple times, then just decided to change it.
We made our way out to the end at Beaver Reservoir and a parade of drunk people on golf carts racing around the reservoir. We aired up and most of us went into Rollinsville to the Stage Coach Inn. They got rid of the shuffleboard and pool tables (?!) so we didn't hang out for very long. It was a great day and it didn't rain once!
