Cedar Mountain Road
We were pleasantly surprised to find a trail between Denver and Metberry Gulch. We expected a simple dirt road and instead we found a fun series of ditches and cracks to play through all the way to the Metberry Gulch trailhead.
We turned onto Cedar Mountain Road and it started to get a little rough, so we decided to air down and disconnect there, even though the Metberry Gulch trailhead was still pretty far away. It ended up being a good idea.
There were cracks every once in awhile, but they kept getting more frequent as we kept going. They also got a bit deeper.
We got to a spur trail that had ties around the big tree at the start of it. It looked like a major trail so we followed it. We saw a few people camping near the bottom, and then we saw a parking area with lots of vehicles (including a minivan). We kept going for a little bit up the hill, but soon the trail just ended at a place where some people were camping.
We turned around and checked out the parking area. It was pretty big, with room for lots of cars. There was a hiking trail there, but it was unmarked. Luckily, we saw some people and asked about it, and it turned out to be Turkey Rock. It is a very popular hiking area.
We worked our way back down and kept going along Cedar Mountain Road. As soon as we got around Cedar Mountain and started heading south, it really got rough. There were some sections that would definitely stop anything with the usual amount of passenger car clearance. It was pretty rough in spots.
We soon came to Metberry Gulch and ran that. When we were done, we finished Cedar Mountain Road. The rest of it south of Metberry Gulch was very smooth and easy, and we made good time all the way to the end.
This was a nice surprise!
