Bunce School Road
The TrailDamage camera finally had too much dirt and sand in it to cooperate, so we did a GoFundMe campaign to reach out for help getting a new one. People really came through and we had a new camera, and we sponsored a few people as a thank you for their help. This run had four new members, and it was a blast having all new people along with us. Two of them were even from out of state.
We met in Nederland, and there was another 4x4 group meeting at the same place. So it made it a bit confusing to find everyone. Natalia and Adam were from Colorado, and Dennis and Tim were on vacation from South Carolina. They had rental Jeeps with them, but they were both heavily involved in the wheeling community where they lived, building up old Jeeps. Dennis supplied tea from a plantation and lots of fun stickers. Then we were off.
We decided to start at the school end of Bunce, so we had a bit of highway driving to do to get there. It was the peak weekend for aspen viewing, so there was gorgeous scenery and tons of people all over the place. We managed to weave through people walking on the highway, didn't hit anyone, and made it to the trailhead. We aired down and started off just as another group was coming up. There were also ATVs and UTVs parked all over, waiting for renters.
Bunce is fairly mellow, though there were some rocky spots. We stopped to do the Ironclads as well as the T-33A Plane Crash trails, so it took a while for us to finally see the end of the trail at Camp Dick. We all hung out there for a little bit, filling up water bottles and chatting. It was a Sunday and late in the afternoon, so Natalia and Adam headed for home while Monica, Tim, and Dennis headed off to do Middle St. Vrain and Coney Flats. The weather was perfect, so why not? We were set on showing the South Carolina guys an awesome time in the Colorado mountains.
