Bunce School Road
Our day had a bit of a rough start. The plan was to start with Johnny Park Road, and we aired down just before getting to the trail. When we got to the trailhead, we discovered that it was still closed for the season. It had been so hot and the mountains didn't have any snow in the Front Range (or at least not very much), so we didn't think to check on trail statuses. A quick check on the other entrance to the trail found that one closed, too.
We looked at maps and decided to see if Pole Hill was open. When we got to that trailhead we found a lot of cars and people making multi-point turns all over. It was closed, too.
That meant we headed the long way through Estes Park over to Bunce School Road. It was open, so we had trails to do. We were already aired down, so after a brief stop to collect ourselves we headed into the trail. We did the Ironclads trail when we weren't too far in, and then kept going along Bunce School Road.
There were a lot of people out. It made sense, with so many of the other trails closed in the area. We were part of a parade heading to the other side, passing others who were going in the other direction.
It was sunny and warm, and the trail didn't give us any issues. It's a relatively easy trail, and we enjoyed just being in the mountains and off of the pavement.
Camp Dick was packed full of campers and vehicles airing up tires. We aired up quickly, and then headed home well before dinner. It was a great day, and we'll do Johnny Park another day.
