I like the old website much better, it was free and faster.
I'm fine with paying 12 dollars a year for the trail resources but the new website has much slower page load times and I have to click on a lot more things to find a trail. Also logging in just to see trails is annoying, especially with a password that needs to be more complicated than the requirements for my bank accounts. And the map is annoying too, I have to zoom in way to close to get rid of the grouping markers.
Also, I was reading through the FAQ's, came across this:
"The site has turned from a clunky, outdated, and overwhelming collection of information to a photoblog. That lets us focus on sharing our trips with the world rather than focusing on trail information for the majority of our visitors. The site is more fun and interesting, with new content added all the time."
Why would you want to alienate the majority of your users? If you want to make it a paid website, then it should focus on the majority of the users and make finding trails and their information quicker and easier. Not force people to pay for an even more clunky website to get trail information.
I will keep my subscription for the year but I'll be actively pursuing a better website.
