Molly’s Castle
It had been a long and awesome day of scenery, but Behind The Reef Road didn't quite work out as we'd planned. We found ourselves on the road to Goblin Valley State Park, and we turned off on an unmarked road. It's always fun to find new trails, but this one went around a bluff to a dead end where RVs were parked. We turned around and headed over to Molly's Castle.
There was a lot of traffic on the paved road, so it was nice to get onto the actual trail. It would be the only trail we would do the whole trip that was already on the website, and we like trips like that. Walt and Monica had been on it before, but it was new to Matt.
It's not a long trail, but it's pretty cool. We cruised along the trail to Molly's Castle where the trail went from easy dirt to some rocky climbs and descents. Then the trail passed the butte and it got fun, a straight line in the sand.
Sand never stays put, of course, and when we got to the place that was mildly sandy in 2013 we found a huge patch of sand that we had to go around rather than over. In all of the surrounding desert, it was cool to see some tiny sand dunes.
We all took the sandy road with some speed because you could see for a long distance ahead. That meant it wasn't long at all before we ended up at the pavement. We aired up there and were headed for Green River and the Tamerisk restaurant long before the sun went down. It was a great day of sunshine and blue skies!
