Georgetown Ice Races
The first Fun Day for the Georgetown Ice Races was cancelled due to lack of ice, so we were really ready for the second and last Fun Day for the season. We headed up to the lake, and the weather looked nasty over the lake even though the drive up was sunny and warm. The morning brought a blizzard to the ice, but it cleared up as the afternoon progressed.
Fun Days are normally $5 but the fee had increased to $20 this season -- that's a big jump! Last year, the ice was full of racers and this year it was pretty empty, so we were guessing the rate would decrease next year. I'm sure they're just finding the right balance. We didn't have to wait very long to pay our entry fee and pick up wrist bands. Then we went into town for lunch before heading back to the lake.
It was Karen's first run and first time ice racing, so we piled in her truck when we got there. It was fun watching someone figure it out, and we all had a good laugh. Then we raced in our own vehicles. It was Matt's first time on the ice, too, and his Subaru did really well. Monica beat the same Audi TT twice in a row. That works!
The weather was perfect, and we were racing with our windows down by the end of the day. We all got sunburns, and it was a great time. Naturally, we finished up the day at Beau Jo's in Idaho Springs. This was one of those perfect ice racing days, and we were already looking forward to next year.
