Bunce School Road
We decided we needed to get out of the city and hit a couple of close trails. We met in Lyons at 9AM and headed out. Not much is open this early in Colorado as far as trails go, so we decided to start with Bunce School Road. Our plan was to leave through the south end the trail through Camp Dick and then hit Switzerland Trail and Sugarloaf Mountain.
Bunce School Road is pretty mellow. It is very popular with ATV and motorcycle groups. We saw lots of ATV traffic along with many campers. At this time of the year we had lots of mud puddles to splash through.
When we got to the end of the trail around 10:30AM, the gate to Camp Dick was open but the campground was closed for another week. The gates to Highway 72 were locked so we had to head back up Bunce School Road. While in the deserted campground we saw several young moose.
On the trail back out we took a couple of side spurs. Arriving where we started, we headed back down Highway 72 towards Nederland for Switzerland Trail.
