Mount Herman Road
We met up at the McDonald's in Monument. It was sunny out, and everything was covered in snow as the area had a snowstorm the day before. So, we decided to air down in the parking lot. After airing down, we went to the trailhead for Mount Herman Road. We started on this trail for the second time this year already because it is the best way for us to get to the trailhead for Balanced Rock Road, our destination.
We thought that we were going to be the first group driving up Mount Herman Road, but it looked like a few other offroad vehicle groups had gone up before us and there were tracks already in the snow.
Soon, we got to the part of the trail where the Ponderosa Pine trees start flanking the road. With the snow from the storm the day before, the snow-covered branches of the pine trees with the green needles looked very beautiful.
About halfway up a speeding Jeep came up fast from behind us. We let the Jeep pass, as he was in a great rush to get someplace.
We stopped in the play area and drove to the top for the view and fun in the snow in the wash-out part of the trail. Tim managed to turn his vehicle sideways going up but was able to straighten out with no issues.
The rest of the drive to the top of Mount Herman Road was fun and easy, with a lot of great views now because there had been a lot of tree logging in the area.
At the end of Mount Herman Road, we took a right turn to go to Balanced Rock Road.
